After 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendments, the responsibility of conducting free & fair elections of Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies in the state has been vested in the State Election Commission under article 243K & 243ZA of the constitution of India. In Uttar Pradesh the State Election Commission was constituted on 23rd, April, 1994. The first election to the members of the Gram Panchayats, Kshetra Panchayats and Zila Panchayats and Pradhan of Gram Panchayats and Chairpersons & members of the Urban Local Bodies in the plain areas of the state were held in 1995. Elections of 3 tier Panchayats and Municipalities in Hill Districts were held in Nov, 1996 and Feb, 1997 respectively. The Second General Elections of 3 tier Panchayats were held in June’ 2000 while that of Urban Local Bodies were held in Nov’2000. The Third General Election of 3 tier Panchayats was held between Aug-Oct, 2005 and Urban Local Bodies was held in Oct' 2006. The Fourth General Election of 3 tier Panchayats was held in Sep-Oct, 2010 and the General Election of Urban Local Bodies was held in May-July, 2012. The Fifth General Election of 3 tier Panchayats was held in Nov-Dec, 2015 and the General Election of Urban Local Bodies was held in Nov-Dec, 2017.The Sixth General Election of 3 tier Panchayats was held in Apr-May, 2021 and the General Election of Urban Local Bodies was held in Apr-May, 2023.

To facilitate the dissemination of the latest information regarding Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies elections, as well as the functions of the Commission, the State Election Commission has launched its own website. This initiative aims to provide valuable information relevant to administrators, planners, social organizations, and office bearers of these institutions. Moreover, it may serve as a useful resource for academicians, research scholars, and the general public interested in the subject matter. The State Election Commission has developed this website with a broad perspective to ensure its utility for a wide range of stakeholders. Any valuable suggestions from stakeholders are welcomed to further enhance its effectiveness.
